The KFSHRC is a 250 bed, tertiary-level referral center that is JCI accredited. It is the only tertiary hospital in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia. It is currently expanding, and within three years will have 600+ beds.

The Ten-bed Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Jeddah treats both adult (15%) and pediatric (85%) cardiac surgery patients. Nurses in the department function within a total care nursing system. In May 2009, the unit opened an additional 10 beds.

Common surgical procedures include:

  • congenital cardiac defect repairs
  • valve repair/replacement
  • coronary artery bypass
  • thoracic aortic aneurysm repair
  • heart and/or lung transplant

Nurse to patient ratio:
1 : 1

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
  • Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
  • A minimum of two years experience as a Registered Nurse, including one-year of recent experience in a similar area, working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America, and
  • Must have pediatric CVICU experience.
