The King Faisal Specialsit Hosptial & Research Centre-Riyadh will be offering a general pediatric course to registered nurses who have no pediatric experience, but who are interested in working in pediatrics.
This course is designed to give you an introduction to Pediatric Nursing. The content is presented throughout 6 weeks and will begin in February 2010. The overall theoretical hours of the course are 45hrs. The clinical hours total 100 hours with a further 8 hours of skills lab.
This general pediatric course will also be a stepping stone for those nurses wishing to progress into pediatric oncology.
Pediatric Clinic is a hospital-based ambulatory center providing non-emergency care to pediatric patients, ages infancy to 14 years, the exception to this age restriction is in the Metabolic and Genetic Services who continue to see their patients regardless of age. This clinic takes place in three different locations as follows:
• 2nd floor, OPD - Medical Pediatric clinics
• 2nd floor OPD - Neuroscience (as described below) at the opposite end of the floor
• 2nd floor North Tower – Pediatric Medical Genetics
The patients come from all over the Kingdom and parts of the Middle East to be seen in this tertiary Care facility. The patient will be referred to one of the sub-specialties within the Pediatric Medical Services, Medical Genetics, Cardiology, Cardiovascular, , Urology. or Neuroscience.
Neuroscience Area
Pediatric Neurology, Adult and Pediatric Neurosurgery and the Pediatric Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) see patients in this clinic area. As well, the Movement Disorder CNC, sees patients in conjunction with a Neurosurgeon.
The clinic is governed by hospital policies and procedures which are standardized in line with JCIA requirement.
Monthly Patient Volume: 2,500-3,000
Clinic Hours of Operation: 5 days per week; Saturday – Tuesday, 0730 – 1700 hr; Wednesday 0730 - 1600 hr
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
- Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of two years current experience as a Registered Nurse working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America.
