Perioperative Nursing is one of nine subsections within the Department of Nursing Affairs at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Competency-based nursing is practiced in the 27-bed Recovery Room, which is one of six units within Perioperative Nursing (the other five include the Level-II OR, Day Surgery Unit, Pre-Anesthesia Clinic, Day Medical Unit, and IVF Clinic).
The Recovery Room receives adult and pediatric patients from the 17 operating room theatres of the Level-II OR. Surgical areas include: general surgery, hepatobiliary, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gynecology, urology, ENT/base of skull/oral, plastics, and ophthalmology
OR cases are scheduled to finish by 19:30, but the unit operates 24 hours per day. There is a weekly night shift from 7:00pm to 7:30am, and emergency cases and weekends are handled on an on-call basis.
Nurse to patient ratio:
1 : 1 unstable pediatric patient/unconscious adult patient
1 : 2 conscious stable patient
The department is available seven days per week, 24 hours a day.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
- Current nursing (RN) license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of two years current experience as a Registered Nurse, of which at least one must be in the specialty area, working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America.
