What is HZA's recruitment process?

The recruitment process varies depending on the hospital to which you apply, your profession, and the visa/licensing rules of the country.
Are interviews required?
Yes! We will interview you via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, FaceTime, or possibly in person. Additionally, an
interview with the hospital in the Saudi Arabia is required.
Why do you ask so many personal questions?
During our introductory call, you will discover that we ask some extremely personal questions. The reason is: we don't want to put you through the lengthy application process if some personal factors may later exclude you from an employment visa in the Middle East.
Do I have to have a Saudi license to work?
You must keep your American or Canadian (or other) license
active and current while you are working in Saudi Arabia,
and have it with you. Nurses, doctors, and allied health
professionals also must obtain a Saudi Commission for
Health Specialties
license. An exam is required.
Do I need to have a visa to go to Saudi Arabia?
Yes. As your recruiting company, Helen Ziegler and
Associates, Inc. will request your visa (as well as those
for eligible family members) from the hospital and the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Obtaining a Saudi work visa is
a lengthy and complex process which requires verification of
educational and experience credentials, an extensive medical
examination, and a police clearance. The process is
different for Americans and Canadians.
What is a residency visa and why is it so important?
In order to stay in Saudi Arabia long-term, you must obtain
a residency visa. Residency visas are arranged by the
hospital, and once you receive your residency visa, you will
receive an "Igama" which is a residency permit. The Igama is
similar in appearance to a driver's license — it has an
identifying digital photo of you and carries your personal
identifying information. You should carry it at all times.
How long will it take to obtain my residency visa (Igama)?
Initially, you will enter Saudi Arabia on a temporary work
visa that is valid for three months, and which is sponsored
by the hospital. Once you arrive, the hospital will ask for
your passport to process your Iqama. The Igama usually
takes between 2-4 weeks to obtain, but can take months.
Do I get to keep my passport or will it be handed over to the hospital upon my arrival?
Upon arrival for orientation at your employer, your passport will be held by your employer, while they process your igama (residency permit). Once the igama has been processed, your receive your passport back.
Why do I have to relinquish my passport to the hospital when I arrive?
See above: You must give the hospital your passport, so that they can
obtain your residency permit (igama). After your igama is processed, you get your passport back.
I have friends and family who would like to visit me. How can they do this?
In 2019, Saudi Arabia launched tourist visas, which allows holders of passports from 51 countries/territories (including Canada, the USA, the UK, EU countries, etc.) to get a 90-day tourist visa by applying online.
Is it correct that I need an "exit visa" to leave Saudi Arabia for vacation, etc.?
Yes. Your final exit visa will be handled by the hospital. But for vacation purposes, you will need an exit/re-entry visa. A
single exit/re-entry visa costs approximately SR200 (US$53) and is valid
for a single trip out of the country. A multiple exit/re-entry costs approximately
SR500 ($133) and is good for unlimited trips for three months.
