FAQ: Texas A&M University at Qatar

Texas A&M University is world renowned for its engineering programs. Its campus in Qatar is no exception. Apart from enrolling more than 400 students from over 20 countries, Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) offers the same curriculum offered at its main campus in College Station, Texas.

What programs are offered?

TAMUQ offers coeducational programs in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering. The university also offers a Master's Program in in Chemical Engineering. The Master's Program, which attracts many top students from the United States, is expanding to include other engineering disciplines in the near future.

Are the programs the same length as those in the United States?

Yes. The undergraduate program at TAMUQ runs four years.

Where are the students from?

Composed of students from over three dozen countries, the student body at TAMUQ numbers more than 500 pupils, 50% of whom are from Qatar.

Where are the faculty members from?

TAMUQ recruits its faculty from all around the world.

What are the requirements or minimum SAT score needed for admission?

The admission requirements at TAMUQ are the same as the admission requirements at the Texas A&M campus in Texas. According to the Texas A&M website, the average acceptable SAT score is 1250.

Will my diploma read 'Texas A&M University at Qatar' or 'Texas A&M University?'

Since TAMUQ is not separate from the Texas A&M University, graduates of TAMUQ will be given a diploma which reads 'Texas A&M University.'

When each year does the program start?

TAMUQ uses the same academic calendar as its American counterpart (September-December, January-April).

What are the annual tuition costs?

For non-sponsored students, tuition is US$19,797. For sponsored students, tuition is US$39,598.

Is there financial aid for international students?

International students may apply to the Qatar Foundation for loans, which can cover from between half to full tuition. Loans must be paid back when the student graduates.

Is there health insurance for international students?

All residents of Qatar are provided with national health coverage by the State. International students who have received their Residence Permit are eligible to obtain a National Health Card and receive free medical care.

Where do TAMUQ students live?

If they do not have alternate accommodation within 20km (32 miles) off campus, TAMUQ students may apply to live in Qatar Foundation residence halls within the Education City complex.
