What is Education City in Qatar?
Education City,
Qatar is an
initiative of the private, non-profit organization, the
Qatar Foundation
for Education, Science and Community Development, which was
founded in 1995 by the Emir of Qatar.
It is set on a 2,500-acre campus on the outskirts of the
capital, Doha, Qatar. Education City hosts branch campuses
of five American universities (Virginia Commonwealth
University School of the Arts in
Qatar, Weill Cornell Medical
College in Qatar, Texas A&M University
at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon
University in Qatar, and
Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in
Qatar, and is also home to
educational institutions for children and teens, and
research institutions (i.e., RAND-Qatar Policy Institute,
Qatar Science & Technology Park, Qatar National Research
Fund). Education City is also the home of the Qatar Music
Academy/Qatar Symphony Orchestra.
There are also two Canadian academic institutions adjacent
to Education City: the University of Calgary in
Qatar; and the College of the
North Atlantic in Qatar.
